Is PetCo or Petsmart better for getting a pet rodent (and other questions)?

Me & my mom & my sister went to Petsmart today & their animals looked really healthy and in good shape! I've heard so many times that when someone adopted an animal from PetCo the animal was REALLY sick or it died in a week so Petsmart maybe a better choice. :)
